The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Whenever a prominent prize-giving event draws close, one notices an outcry to include additional classifications to recognize unsung work and delight the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out in 2019
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles in the world and have been for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, producing among essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
