The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Struggling Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Comes After Lukewarm Reception

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the need for a distinct direction.

Ismailer noted that the team is now reimagining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

Trend of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the full message from Ismailer's communication:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the requirement for a more distinct brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the feedback to heart and revamped the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our fans.

The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of the team. After a period of conversations, he starts with us on the specified date.

His guidance and experience in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most popular franchises in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Please join me in receiving Ben soon. We are all eager to keep observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.

David

Experience of the New Leader

The appointee presently holds the role of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in multiple development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Vision

Project Ethos was revealed in last year together with a early access event. Then, 31st Union described the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an innovative step forward on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch reads. "Face the competition with new abilities, stakes, and challenges that evolve every round. Will you safely extract with your collected items? Or go big, risk it all, and hope your squad can achieve the highest spot? The choice is up to you."

The game does not have an official debut schedule or supported systems, but fans can expect more updates as development continues.
