Micky van de Ven Brace Ends The Toffees' Run at New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their unbeaten run in away games in the top division and handed Everton their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck twice from corners in the first half to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the tally a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of chances, while Vicario made a succession of excellent saves to ensure Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, advising the match official to review the score on the screen and the official ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates the manager's team up to third in the division, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and are six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven excels in duties at both ends of the field

After a uninspiring weekday performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a mere attempts on target, the manager opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman converted into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' first goal came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball back across the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - notched his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was just as impressive in defence, combining effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo handled superbly with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have worn off slightly and fans flocked to the exits after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The end in the team's winning streak at home will not be a major concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's two established strikers - had netted just one league goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to add to that poor record on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

The striker's form was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

Barry, too, failed to influence the game after replacing the starter in the second half.

It was not for a shortage of chance. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Spurs penalty area.
